By now Nokia has 3 touchscreen smartphones in its portfolio, based on Symbian S60v5 platform- 5800,N97 and 5530. 5800 was the first Nokia touchscreen so it is most popular among the three.N97 is the current Nokia flagship model.It is ahead of both 5800 and 5530 in terms of features.5530 is just announced and not released yet.It is the cheapest among the three.

• Appearance- 5530 is quite attractive as it has got stainless steel chrome finish on the exterior and is smallest and slimmest among the three.N97 has a shiny metal exterior but is quite bulky in comparison to other two.Nokia has used cheap plastic for the front cover of 5800 due to which it doesn’t look so attractive.

• Weight- N97 is the heaviest (150g) as it includes a slider QWERTY keyboard.Both 5530 and 5800 are very lightweight.Their weights are 107g and 109g respectively.

• Keypad- Only N97 has actual QWERTY keyboard the other two have a virtual one.A virtual keyboard has all the keys of a QWERTY keyboard the only difference is that you have to use touchscreen to type letters.

• Display- The screen resolution of all the 3 is same with only difference in the screen size.N97 has the biggest 3.5 inch screen,5800 has 3.2 inch and 5530 has the smallest 2.9 inch screen, which is why it most compact out of the three.The screen resolution is same so it is not a matter of concern.Nokia N97 and 5530 has new improved homescreen with Kinetic Scrolling.

• Memory- N97 has 32 GB internal memory and along with that an additional card slot for Micro SD card up to 16 GB.Nokia 5800 has 8GB and 5530 has 4 GB micro SD card, included in the sales package.

• Hardware- 5800 Xpress Music has the old 369 MHz CPU while 5530 and N97 has new fast processor with a clock speed of 434 MHz which will help in faster operations considering the high resolution display.All of them have same 128 MB RAM which is quite sufficient for multitasking.

• Software- All the three are based on Symbian 9.4 S60v5 Operating System which is made specially for Nokia Touchscreen Smartphones.

• Connectivity- N97 and 5800 have almost all latest connectivity features including Bluetooth, USB, GPRS, EDGE,3G,Wifi and GPS.5530 lacks 3G and GPS.

• Multimedia- All the 3 are rich in multimedia as they belong to Xpress Music and N Series category.The audio quality is excellent but you should get high quality earphones such as Sennheiser CX300,which can be plugged into the 3.5 mm audio jack to get the best audio performance.Frame rate for video playback is 30 FPS which is quite good.

• Camera- N97 is equipped with a 5MP camera with Auto focus and Dual LED Flash.5800 and 5530 have 3.2 MP camera which also includes Auto focus but 5800 has Dual LED while 5530 has a single LED Flash.N97 and 5800 has DVD quality VGA (640×480) recording while 5530 records video at maximum resolution of 176×220 which is below average.

• Battery- N97 has the most powerful 1500 mAh battery but consumption is also maximum due to biggest display.5800 has 1320 mAh battery and 5530 has the least powered 1000 mAh battery.Music playback time for 5530,5800 and N97 are 27, 35 and 40 hours respectively.Official Talktime figures from Nokia for 5530,5800 and N97 are up to 5hr,8hr 45 min and 9hr 30min respectively.

• Price- As N97 is high on features and is recently launched is carries a high price tag of around $600.5800 maintains a proper balance between the price and feature.It is available for a reasonable price of around $300.Nokia 5530 is yet to launch but its expected price is $278 which is just little less than 5800.

Conclusion - We can deduce from the above comparison that 5800 offers the best value for money.It is in the market from a long time so it has got the benefit of price reduction.N97 is the best among the three but its few additional features doesn’t justify the high price tag.Nokia 5530 is a good option if you can manage without 3G and GPS.It has the same processor as N97 and is more attractive than 5800.
